Fire alarms nationwide will ring this afternoon, but it won't just be because there's an emergency.
Alarms across the country will sound at 2 p.m. Wednesday to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the International Association of Firefighters' founding. The organization was founded in order to give firefighters a voice and to help them educate the public on what firefighters do.
Those efforts have helped the IAFF become a leader and driving force in promoting community safety. The promotion of community safety includes pushing for better sprinkler systems, smoke alarms and public education.
