Pitt County - At least one person is lucky to be alive today after a fire destroyed a Pitt County home early Sunday morning.
Staton House Fire Department responded to a report of a working structure fire at 3:43 a.m. at 3510 Staton Mill Road. They were helped by Bethel Fire Department and Pitt County EMS personnel.
One person was inside when the fire happened but got out safely. The home has been deemed a total loss. The American Red Cross is helping the home owner.
Staton Mill Road was closed at the intersection with Hollowell Road while the blaze was being extinguished. It was contained in just under an hour.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
