Fire destroys Oak Island motel

OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WITN) - A motel is destroyed following an overnight fire.

At least 14 different fire departments battled a blaze at the Ocean Crest Motel on Oak Island Sunday night, according to the The Oak Island Fire Department's Facebook page.

The department urged people to stay away from East Beach Drive where the motel is located as crews worked to put out the blaze.

News outlets in Wilmington report that no one was staying in the portion of the motel that caught fire because it was under construction.

Firefighters say windy conditions contributed to the spread of the fire. There's no word yet on the cause of the fire.
