A Camden County fire department went up in flames shortly before 10 pm Thursday.

Dispatchers received word that the South Camden Fire Department was on fire. No one was there at the time.

Firefighters from Camden Co. and several other departments arrived on scene to find a fire contained to the truck bay where a number of emergency vehicles were parked.

So far, the Pasquotank-Camden-Elizabeth City Emergency Management Agency says that damage to the building and apparatus is still being assessed.

Christy Saunders with emergency management says several emergency vehicles were heavily damaged including a brush truck and an ambulance.

She says some vehicles were removed from the building before they could be damaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
