FIRST ON WITN: Greenville police investigating fatal accident
Police are investigating a fatal accident at one busy Eastern Carolina intersection.
Greenville police say one driver was killed in a head-on crash on Fire Tower Road near Wimbledon Drive around 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
Officers say 36-year-old Pattie Gardner of Farmville was driving west on Fire Tower in a Chevy Tahoe when she crashed head on into a Ford Escape driven by 52-year-old Sean Pumphrey of Greenville.
Both were taken to Vidant Medical Center where Gardner later died.
Pumphrey and his passenger are expected to be okay.
The crash is still under investigation.
A busy roadway was closed for several hours Saturday night following a wreck in Greenville.
The two-vehicle crash happened around 8:30 p.m. along Fire Tower Road near Wimbeldon Drive, Greenville Police said.
Officers said it was a bad crash with serious injuries.
Fire Tower Road was closed to traffic as police investigated. Drivers were being redirected down Old Firetower Road to get around the scene.
No word yet on the victims or exactly what caused the crash.
