CARTERET COUNTY, NC (WITN) The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved a multi-million dollar reimbursement for debris removal in one eastern Carolina county following Hurricane Florence.
Carteret County will now receive nearly $5.7 million from FEMA after hiring contractors and using county workers and equipment to remove debris.
The approved funds will cover work completed through November 4th of 2018.
FEMA's public assistance program provides grants to state and local governments to reimburse the cost of debris removal, emergency protective measures and permanent repair work.
FEMA reimburses applicants at least 75 percent of eligible costs, and the remaining 25 percent is covered by the state of North Carolina.
