DUPLIN COUNTY, NC (WITN) - Troopers say it appears snowy road conditions caused a fatal accident late Monday afternoon in one Eastern Carolina county.
The crash happened around 5:10 p.m. on Bennett's Bridge Road, west of Albertson in Duplin County.
The Highway Patrol says it was snowing at the time, and a northbound vehicle crossed the center line, and lost control, The vehicle then spun out and hit the other vehicle on the passenger side,
The driver in the first vehicle, 31-year-old Evelin Herrera of Mt. Olive, was killed, while the other driver was taken to Vidant Duplin Hospital.
Troopers say due to Herrera's death there will be no charges in the crash.
Schools is Duplin, Lenoir and Wayne counties are closed Tuesday because of the snow.
Snow started falling across parts of eastern Carolina Monday evening as a winter weather advisory is in effect.
Some locations reporting snow include Kinston, Greenville, Hookerton, Ayden, Falkland, Goldsboro, and Martin County, among others.
Caution is urged if you are traveling.
Rain will change to snow for a brief period this evening across most of eastern North Carolina.
A dusting, up to two inches in some locations, will be possible across grassy surfaces between sunset and midnight for areas generally along and inland of NC-17.
Plan on slippery road conditions. Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times.
