LENOIR COUNTY, NC (WITN) - Both directions of Felix Harvey Parkway outside of Kinston have reopened.
A busy Eastern Carolina highway is completely shut down because of a bad railroad crossing.
Both the east and westbound lanes of the Felix Harvey Parkway outside of Kinston closed today.
On August 2nd, the Department of Transportation shut down the eastbound lanes of the highway between Poole and Rouse roads due to damage at the railroad crossing. That work was supposed to be completed by last Friday, but the highway has remained closed.
Now, the DOT says they need to also close the westbound lanes to repair the damage. They expect both closures to last through Friday evening.
Traffic on the parkway will be detoured on U.S. 258, Dobbs Farm Road and Rouse Road.
