Because of the winter storm, ECU will operate on Condition 2 on Thursday, Jan. 4.

Starting at 7 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, employees should observe Condition 2 of the University Adverse Weather & Emergency Event policy. Supervisors may deem certain employees mandatory based on university needs. Non-mandatory employees should not report to campus to allow crews to clear roads. The entire policy can be read here: http://www.ecu.edu/prr/06/45/02

Students are encouraged NOT to return to campus on Thursday. Road conditions may also be hazardous Friday; consider traveling on major roads that have been pre-treated and cleared by the N.C. Department of Transportation. The latest road conditions can be checked at www.ncdot.gov/traffictravel/

Dangerous travel conditions should be expected through eastern North Carolina because of the snow and ice. Roads are expected to freeze again overnight and elevated surfaces, such as bridges and overpasses are expected to be icy. When traveling: stay alert, avoid cell phone use, leave early to allow for additional travel time, reduce speed, increase following distance, and be patient.

Conditions experienced by individuals will vary, and everyone is responsible for their own actions and safety.

The next announcement will be made by 4 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 4, unless conditions warrant an earlier update. This information will be posted on www.ecu.edu/alert , as well as posted on ECU’s official Facebook and Twitter accounts.
