EMERALD ISLE, N.C. (WITN) - The National Weather Service says an EF2 tornado struck an Emerald Isle RV park ahead of Hurricane Dorian.
The tornado caused extensive damage to the Boardwalk RV Park and the Salty Pirate Waterpark Friday around 9:00 a.m.
Meteorologists say the tornado, which started out as a waterspout on the ocean, packed 115 mile per hour winds.
They say after hitting Emerald Isle, the tornado became a waterspout again as it crossed the sound. It continued northwest where it once again became a tornado on the mainland. It caused major roof damage to one home and minor damage to several others in the Maysville area.
The tornado was on the ground for 13 miles and had a path width of some 200 yards.
No one was injured by the tornado.
