GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - ECU is welcoming its third largest freshman class in university history.
University officials say there are 4,366 new freshman and 1,280 new master's students, making up ECU's overall student body of 28,651 students. This semester's enrollment is only down 67 students from last year.
ECU leaders credit improved recruitment efforts for the increase in enrollment, including more regional recruiters around the state. They are also focusing on making college more accessible through scholarship opportunities and by working with several community colleges to make transferring to ECU easier.
The university hopes to keep student growth steady. They have already begun recruiting students for next fall and will host an open house on September 28 for potential ECU students and their families to tour campus.
The tenth day of class is traditionally "census day" for UNC system schools.
