East Carolina University is giving students the opportunity to use their One Card off campus and at select Uptown Greenville businesses.

The card is used to identify students, which has spending accounts on it to be used on campus.

Students, faculty, and staff can add funds to their Bounty Bucks account and can then use their One Card to purchase not only meals on or off campus, but also retail items at stores such as UBE.

"We give them more opportunity, you know the walkability of the Uptown, downtown area. It'll provide them more choices with food and retail," says UBE Sportwear Manager, Chad Thompson.

Thompson says it's a simple process for students to use their One Card at Uptown businesses.

"It's just like any credit card or debit card machine at any business. They just come up here, tell us they want to use their Bounty Bucks and then we take them over to a specific register and it's as simple as that."

ECU'S Auxiliary Services Director Of Marketing, Leslie Craigle, says this is not a new program but instead an expansion of the existing one.

It used to be called the Gold Key account until 2016 when it was changed to Bounty Bucks. This is a declining balance account that has been used on campus for many years.

Craigle says, "ECU One Card has several spending accounts. They can be used for different things on campus like meal plans, book store accounts, things like that."

So far there are eight businesses in Uptown participating.
