GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - With ECU football fans gearing up for a brand new season, WITN got an inside look at the much anticipated and nearly completed $60 million renovation project to Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium and its surrounding facilities on Monday.

TowneBank Tower is nearly finished as ECU football prepares for its first home game of the 2019 season on Saturday, September 7.

The renovations to the southside portion of the stadium will add more than 1,000 additional seats, including a new press area, sky boxes, and club-level seating.

ECU Athletics Director Jon Gilbert is going into his first full football season in charge and says it will make Pirate Nation proud.

"I will tell you this tower, TowneBank Tower, it's as good as anywhere in the country," said Gilbert. "It is a first-class facility, and I'm really fortunate that we have it here at East Carolina," he said.

In addition to the TowneBank Tower, Minges Coliseum and the Murphy Center Weight Room have also been renovated.

Fans can check out all of the changes during the annual "Meet the Pirates" event on Saturday, August 17.
