ECU is being recognized for its largest student voter turnout in recent elections.

The university received the Silver Seal at this year's "All In Challenge Awards."

The All In Campus Democracy Challenge is a non-partisan initiative to encourage students to vote and become active citizens in their communities.

Students can register and vote in their college communities or vote absentee in their home districts.

ECU was recognized with the Silver Seal because 30 to 39 percent of students participated in last year's elections.

Alex Dennis with the Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement at ECU says, "It's definitely part of our strategic mission here at the university to create the next engaged active citizens within our world and our democracy. And one of the things that we see in the world is that democracy is something that is very fragile and that we need students and citizens who are engaged in that process."

Dennis says the number of ECU students voting has risen over past years, and the university hopes to see continued growth during the next election cycle.
