GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) Hundreds of students, faculty, and staff observed International Women's Day at ECU Tuesday.
Throughout the day panel discussions were held at the new student center regarding social, economic, and environmental issues with a focus on the female experience and perspective.
The annual event draws students and staff from across the academic spectrum and encourages participants to consider perspectives they might not have been exposed to before.
Ashley Cleland with the ECU Women and Gender Office says, "The more that we expose folks to other walks of life the more we create a compassionate and empathetic environment where we can really put ourselves literally in the shoes of other people. So I'm hoping the students will be challenged by this experience. in a positive way, challenged to think outside the box."
The event was hosted Tuesday because the university was on spring break last week on the actual International Women's Day.
