ECU medical school simulates emergency medical triage

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) East Carolina medical school students put their education into practice during a mass casualty exercise.

The emergency medical triage simulation is part of a mass casualty exercise using actors and mannequins to better prepare students to react when handling emergency cases.

It's an exercise put on every semester by Brody Medical School's emergency medicine interest group, but this is the first year nursing students have joined in the exercise.

"We hope that this simulation empowers everyone to be the leaders and to help foster that disaster response," said accelerated nursing student Kristen Cossaart.

There were also labs on other medical procedures to teach students other aspects of stabilizing patients during emergency care.
