ECU leaders proposing tuition and fee increases

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - ECU leaders are proposing tuition and fee increases for the next academic year.

During the second open forum Wednesday, students had an opportunity to ask questions or share concerns about the new increases.

School administrators plan to increase undergraduate resident tuition by 3% and also increase fees for athletics, student centers, educational technology, housing and dining, and parking.

One ECU sophomore who attended the forum said she understands the need for increases but also knows how added costs negatively impact students.

"I can see how it can be helpful because we want to keep our school out of debt, but at the same time it can also be a burden on students just because many of us have financial restraints that, you know, will be difficult to maintain," said Alysia Bryant.

The increases will not be final until the board of governors votes in the spring.
