The largest LGBTQ Center in the UNC System held its ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday at East Carolina University.
ECU Staff cut the rainbow ribbon before welcoming everyone inside the office which is situated inside the new 220,000 square foot Main Campus Student Center.
A portrait of the LGBTQ Center's namesake, Jesse Peele was also unveiled during Saturday's ceremony.
Peele said it was overwhelming to be a part of the new center, which he hopes will foster acceptance.
"It gives them a home away from home and oftentimes a home that is more accepting than the one they were born in," Peele said.
The new center has a study space, a conference room and a lending library with more than 500 books.
