GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The faculty and staff at East Carolina University are preparing for two big events this Monday: the first day of class and the solar eclipse.
The university plans to take advantage of this learning opportunity and encourage students to attend one of the viewing parties around campus.
ECU students will be safely watch the eclipse and screen NASA's live-stream of the event at both the Health Science Student Center and the Mendenhall Student Center.
"It starts with the year off with a bang so to speak in the sense that we are going to use the natural occurrence and use it as a teachable moment," Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Virginia Hardy said.
The Physics Department at ECU will also be hosting a viewing party for its students on the top floor of the Howell Science Building. Hardy says the department will have the special eclipse glasses available for all physics major who attend the event.
