GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - Cold weather like we've had lately can get some people down.
That's why East Carolina University is giving its students a chance to share their stories, and their shoes, to help others dealing with challenges of all kinds.
Students walked by empty shoes on their way to classes today.
The shoes had tags on them telling the stories of folks struggling with everything from family problems to medical issues.
Some students stopped to read these stories, or for a free cup of hot chocolate being offered from campus staff.
They also had a chance to write their own messages of encouragement on a chalk board.
ECU Residence Hall Association advisor Will Bullock hopes this event helps students feel comfortable sharing any struggles they may face.
"These impact our students it's not just our residence students that are impacted by mental health. It impacts every ECU student whether it's in a positive or negative light and we want to let all of our student s know we're here for them," said Bullock.
ECU SHOES stands for Students Honoring Other Students and its the third year the program has been held at ECU.
