The interim chancellor at one university here in the east says funding in the new state budget will greatly impact health care in Eastern Carolina.
ECU Interim Chancellor Dan Gerlach says the allocated funding in the state budget for a new Brody School of Medicine facility will result in better-trained doctors.
In a statement, he said it will "allow us to live out our mission of excellent primary care education for North Carolina students and a focus on underserved populations, especially in our region."
The General Assembly secured $215 million for a new facility for the school.
The bill goes to Governor Roy Cooper who has expressed a willingness to veto the budget because it does not expand medicaid.
