GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Jon Gilbert and his ECU Athletics leadership team provided the media with an inside look at the new TowneBank Tower at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium on Tuesday.
The $60 million southside renovation project is expected to be completed by August and just in time for the 2019 ECU Football season. The facility is about 85 percent complete, according to ECU Athletics.
"Clearly, you can see from the tour today it's state-of-the-art, and people know that this is a first-class facility," said ECU Director of Athletics Jon Gilbert. "I want to make sure that we deliver a first-class experience on gameday. And so I want our people, as they come in and experience this, that it is a first-class experience starting in the parking lot, the way they're greeted at the stadium, and then certainly their experience in the seats."
The tower includes a new press box, luxury suites, and a multi-function club level, just to name a few of the many fan-friendly changes to the Pirate gameday experience this upcoming fall.
"We've already announced that we'll let fans on the field after the game to kind of experience Dowdy-Ficklen in a different way, but we have some other things that we're working on from a gameday experience, and it really starts when people are driving in," added Gilbert. "Driving in, parking their car, tailgating, it all plays a part, and I want to make sure we're doing a good job of creating the best gameday atmosphere."
