DUPLIN COUNTY, NC (WITN) - Deputies say they have made an arrest in the murder of a woman last night in one Eastern Carolina county.
Duplin County deputies say they were called around 6:45 p.m to a home on Highway 241, south of Pink Hill.
There they found 26-year-old Veronica Jester had been shot in the head behind the residence.
Deputies arrested 29-year-old Asunsion Martinez at the scene and charged him with an open count of murder.
Martinez is in the Duplin County jail without bond.
Lt. Scott Kennedy with the Duplin County Sheriff's Office says neither the suspect nor the victim lived at the home and added there were other people there when the shooting happened.
Kennedy says no one else is facing charges at this time and that they are still looking into a possible motive in the woman's murder.

Duplin County deputies say it happened around 7:00 p.m. Monday off Highway 241, south of Pink Hill.
