Pitt County teen missing for past week is safe

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN)- Deputies say a Pitt County teenager who was reported missing more than a week ago has been found safe.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says 15-year-old Zykira Highsmith was located Monday.

Investigators last week said her running away was "serious" and that she was last seen in the early morning hours of April 1st in the Bell Arthur area.

A spokesman says no criminal charges would be filed in connection with her disappearance.

Deputies are asking for the public's help locating a runaway they are concerned about the well-being of.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office is looking for 15-year-old Zykira Highsmith. The teen is 5'6'' tall and weighs 112 pounds. She also has long burgundy colored braids in her hair.

Investigators say she was last seen in the early morning hours of April 1st in the Bell Arthur community of Pitt County.

Highsmith may be in the company of an African-American juvenile by the name of Isaiah Johnson, officials say. He is about 5'6'' tall and 125 pounds. He's said to have an Afro hair style.

Despite being considered a runaway, the sheriff's office says the case is considered to be serious and detectives are investigating it as a priority.
