UPDATE: Deputies identify Pitt County woman found dead on Labor Day

PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN)- The Pitt County Sheriff's Office has identified a woman whose body was found in a yard on Labor Day.

Investigators say that Sharon McLawhorn, 54, of Greenville, was found dead in a yard on Jackson Avenue. Deputies say that McLawhorn lives at a Jackson Avenue address.

Officials say that the investigation remains ongoing.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a person's body was found in a yard on Labor Day.

Lt. Kip Gaskins tells WITN that a woman's body was found sometime Monday morning on Jackson Avenue off of Pactolus Highway.

The sheriff's office has not released the woman's name, but friends and family who have been notified say they loved her.

"She was a special girl. She was one you could not help but like and love. She would help you in any way she could. I lived with her off and on and she has lived with me off and on. Anybody would do anything in the world for her. She was just a great-hearted woman," said Tony Bryant, who is a friend of the victim.

Officials say that there are no signs of foul play at this time, but they are continuing to investigate.

There's no word on a potential cause of death at this time.
