Woman gets $1.2 million bond for killing husband of 53 years

PAMLICO COUNTY, NC (WITN) - A judge gave a woman a $1.2 million bond on charges that she killed her husband of more than 50 years.

Linda Griffin made a brief first court appearance this morning in Bayboro.

While being led in, Griffin waved and blew kisses to those in the courtroom. Afterward, family members refused to talk to WITN.

On Wednesday the 69-year-old woman was arrested for the shooting death of Raymond Griffin, 74.

Around 1:50 p.m., deputies responded to the home Highway 306 North following a call of a man shot. There they found the man with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Courthouse records show the two were married in 1964, the week of Linda Griffin's 16th birthday..

The Pamlico County Sheriff's Office says they have arrested and charged a woman with murder after they found her husband shot to death Wednesday afternoon.

Linda Griffin, 69, is charged with an open count of murder and is being held without bond in the Pamlico County Detention Center.

On Wednesday, around 1:50 p.m., deputies responded to the home at 783 NC HWY 306 North following a call of a man shot.

They say the victim, Raymond Griffin, 74, died from a gunshot wound to his chest.

Both the victim and the suspect live at the home, according to the press release.

A homicide investigation is underway in one Eastern Carolina county as a highway has reopened around the scene.

Pamlico County Sheriff Chris Davis says they first received a 911 call from the residence just before 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon about a person who had died after being shot.

The home sits on Highway 306 North in Grantsboro and had been blocked off as investigators continue to work to determine what happened.

They do say this has become a homicide investigation and that they do have a person of interest in the case.

"We are currently actively investigating this as a homicide investigation," the sheriff says. "We have a person of interest that we are interviewing at this time and we hope to have more information in the coming hours."

The identity of the victim has not yet been released. The sheriff says they are still notifying the person's family.

A death investigation is now a homicide investigation in one Eastern Carolina county.

Pamlico County Sheriff Chris Davis says his deputies and the SBI are now treating the death as a homicide investigation on Highway 306 north in Grantsboro.

The sheriff says there is no public threat, as they are questioning a person of interest

Highway 306 between Hunnings Farm Road and Highway 55 is closed.

Davis says 911 received a call this afternoon about a person who died as a result of a gunshot wound.
