Damage assessment at $100 million and climbing in New Bern
City officials in New Bern were out once again Thursday assessing the damage to both residential and commercial structures after the impacts of Hurricane Florence.
Jeff Ruggieri, New Bern Development Services Director says, "We're looking at flooding levels, we're looking at trees that have fallen, and making sure that the structures that people are in are safe for them to be in."
The total damage is unlike anything the city has seen before.
Ruggieri says, "This is by far the largest storm as far as damage, and values. We'll have over $100 million of structural damage."
City officials say they are about 80 percent done with their damage assessments, and anticipate being done with this initial phase by end of the day Friday.
