WAYNE COUNTY, NC (WITN) - A man who lived with a pregnant woman found murdered late last month has been charged with her death and the death of her unborn daughter.
Wayne County deputies today arrested James Jones, Jr., of Pikeville, on charges of murder and murder of an unborn child.
The body of 29-year-old Cassia DuVal was found slumped over the wheel of her vehicle back on January 29th at the intersection of Pikeville-Princeton Road and Nahunta Road. The woman's unborn daughter, Aspen, did not survive.
Deputies say Jones and DuVal lived together at a home on Sweeten Branch Drive.
DuVal's father is an investigator with the Wise County, Virginia Sheriff's Office. The woman was seven months pregnant.
The 33-year-old Jones is jailed without bond.
Deputies say the case of a woman found slumped over the wheel of her vehicle Wednesday night has now been classified as a homicide.
Cassia Duval was pregnant and Wayne County deputies say the fetus did not survive.
The 29-year-old woman was found in a vehicle near the intersection of Pikeville-Princeton Road and Nahunta Road. Her vehicle was found crashed in a ditch.
Deputies are not releasing any more information on the case including how they believe the woman died.
Deputies are investigating after they say they found a woman dead inside a car.
Wayne County deputies say they got a call around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday about a woman slumped over in a car near the intersection of Pikeville-Princeton Road and Nahunta Road.
When they got there, deputies say they found the car in a ditch and a woman dead inside. Her name has not been released until family has been notified.
The cause of the death is under investigation.
