DEPUTIES: Teenager suspected of porch pirating arrested in Pitt County neighborhood
Deputies say they’ve nabbed a teenager committing one of the major scourges of the holiday season: porch pirating.
The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a report in the Cherry Oaks subdivision near Greenville for someone in a black truck possibly stealing packages from porches.
Officials say a deputy was able to find the truck within minutes and stop it.
Inside, deputies say they found several packages with a variety of different names and addresses from that neighborhood and others.
Roberto Gutierrez, 18, of Greenville, was charged with one count of felony larceny and 3 counts of misdemeanor larceny.
He’s being held on a $12,000 secured bond.
Officials say other stolen merchandise was found in the truck that was not in the original boxes. It’s believed the items came from the Cherry Oaks and Windsor subdivisions, Simpson community, and surrounding areas.
If you believe you may have had something taken, you’re asked to contact the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office.
A juvenile in the truck was detained then released to an adult. Deputies say a petition will be filed with Juvenile Justice to bring appropriate legal action.
