BEAUFORT COUNTY, NC (WITN) - A home in Beaufort County is a total loss after a late morning fire today.
Crews from both Beaufort and Pitt counties were alerted around 11:00 a.m. to the fire on Highway 33, about halfway between Chocowinity and Grimesland.
A passerby saw the smoke and went up to the house to alert anyone inside before calling 911.
When crews first arrived the two-story house was fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters say heavy winds helped fuel the fire.
The homeowner was not home, and right now firefighters don't believe anyone was inside at the time.
The cause of the fire is under investigation while Highway 33 was completely blocked by fire trucks.
