UPDATE: Fire at abandoned junk yard in Onslow County contained

ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WITN)- Firefighters have been able to contain a blaze that required a multi agency response.

Onslow County Emergency Services Director Norman Bryson says that the fire sparked at an abandoned junk yard in some woods on Blue Creek School Road.

Bryson says that between five to ten acres have been burned.

Crews expect to be at the scene another two to three hours to keep an eye on the fire.

Students at nearby Blue Creek Elementary School were kept indoors as a result of the fire.

Firefighters and are at the scene of a blaze involving a building here in the east.

Onslow County Emergency Services says the fire is on Blue Creek School Road and is producing heavy black smoke.

Fire engines are coming and going from the scene after refilling with water.

Officials say fire units are working with schools as well as businesses in the surrounding area.
