Craven County students lose one week of summer thanks to Hurricane Florence

CRAVEN COUNTY, NC (WITN) - One school system hit hard by Hurricane Florence is extending the school year to help make up for lost time.

Thursday night the Craven County School Board unanimously okayed making the last day of school on June 14th, instead of June 7th.

State lawmakers forgave school districts for up to 20 days of lost class time because of Hurricane Florence, but Craven County, as well as several others here in Eastern Carolina, went well past that.

The school system said it also wanted to have days available for any possible snow days this winter.
