Craven County is now under a mandatory evacuation order.

This was effective at 2:00 p.m.

A city spokeswoman says this includes those within New Bern.

County emergency officials are strongly urging all residents to leave the area and self evacuate ahead of this storm.

Due to this evacuatation- officials say the four shelters that were going to be set up for residents around Craven County will no longer open, instead the state will determine and set up another shelter for residents to go to in an inland county.

Emergency services officials say this storm is going to bring very severe storm surge, rainfall, winds, and flooding and they want residents to take that seriously and heed all warnings.

The county says they will have their emergency operations command center fully up and running by Wednesday at noon.

Officials say if you do decide to stay you need to be prepared to lose power and will need enough food and water to last several days.
