Girlfriend charged in babysitter rape case

CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - The girlfriend of a man accused of raping a five-year-old has been charged in the case.

Craven County deputies say Janatia Bullock, 33, was arrested today for felony obstruction of justice.

Two weeks ago, Michael Bryan, 37, was arrested in Summersville, West Virginia on fugitive warrants.

The Cove City man was wanted for felony statutory rape of a child and felony statutory sex offense of a five-year-old he was babysitting.

Deputies say Bullock gave Bryan financial help while he was evading authorities.

A babysitter accused by a sheriff's office of raping a child made his first court appearance here in the east.

Michael Bryan, 37, of Cove City was extradited from West Virginia back to Eastern Carolina on Thursday after being caught there last week.

Bryan is charged by the Craven County Sheriff's Office with statutory rape and statutory sex offense involving a 5-year-old victim.

Friday morning, a judge granted the district attorney's request to set Bryan's bond at $2-million

Bryan was also ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device and to stay away from the victim and their family if he were to post bond.

He was given a court-appointed attorney and is due in court on November 15th.

A man accused of raping a five-year-old that he was babysitting has been found in West Virginia.

Michael Bryan was caught around 1:30 p.m. today in Summersville, West Virginia, according to Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes.

"Our criminal investigation division worked diligently with agencies at the local, state, and federal levels to help track and locate Michael Bryan,” said Hughes.

The 37-year-old Bryan, who lives in Cove City, was wanted for felony statutory rape of a child and felony statutory sex offense of a five-year-old he was babysitting.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved with Bryan's capture, including the FBI, the SBI Fugitive and Missing Person Task Force, West Virginia State Police, the Nicholas County Sheriff's Office and the Summersville Police Department.
