Craven County Schools still assessing damage from hurricane

CRAVEN COUNTY, NC (WITN) - School districts hit hard from Hurricane Florence are still assessing damage while students remain out of the classrooms.

For Craven County schools, Monday marks the start of the third week since the hurricane where students haven't gone to school.

School officials are hoping to resume classes on October 8th, while they are still working on exactly how much damage their buildings incurred because of the storm.

Havelock High School's field house had major roof damage from the hurricane winds. The high school's principal is hoping this Friday's game against rival West Carteret will help the community's healing process.

Many other schools were received moisture damage from the storm.
