Three Eastern Carolina school systems say they will be closed through the end of next week.
Craven, Duplin and Onslow County announced this afternoon that because of storm damage and the continued threat of flooding in Western Craven County, the two systems will be closed at least until Friday, September 28th.
Duplin County says their system is closed through Wednesday for both students and staff. Thursday, September 27th, and Friday, September 28th, will be optional teacher workdays only for those who are able to safely report for work.
Craven County Schools says they are still trying to verify the location of their students who relocated because of the storm damage, while many staff members experienced substantial damage to their homes.
In Onslow County, there was flooding inside school buildings, loss of outside walkway coverings, and collapsed ceiling tiles. Also, many of the districts' mobile units have been damaged and are completely unusable.
