A truck driver was killed after a tractor-trailer hauling large rocks flipped over on a busy Eastern Carolina highway Friday morning
Both directions of U.S. 70 were shut down near Tom Mann Road outside of Newport.
The crash involved an overturned 18-wheeler and debris was scattered all over the road.
The Highway Patrol says the trucker, 56-year-old James Guthrie, Jr., was killed in the crash. They say the Williston man was not wearing a seatbelt.
A witness says she saw the big rig swerve off the road, tried to regain control, and flipped multiple times.
Troopers say another vehicle was damaged when it was hit by one of the rocks, but no one inside was injured.
