Craven County Sheriff nabs man after leading him on high speed chase

COVE CITY, NC (WITN) - A man here in the east is behind bars after authorities say he led a sheriff on a high speed chase.

Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes attempted to pull over a car in Cove City on Sunday for a traffic violation when 25-year-old Ramelo Murriel refused to stop.

Murriel reached speeds of 115 MPH when he wrecked his car and began running on foot.

Murriel was captured in the woods and is facing numerous charges.

He had outstanding warrants including failure to appear for a hit and run accident, driving while having a revoked license and failure to pay child support.

Murriel is scheduled to appear in court today.
