WASHINGTON, DC (WITN) A deputy who lost his life in the line of duty just days ago was honored Thursday in the nation's capital.
Representative GK Butterfield took to the floor of Congress and spoke about Edgecombe County Deputy David Manning.
The 24-year-old died Sunday night when he lost control of his patrol car during a pursuit and hit another vehicle head on. Manning had just started as a deputy this past November.
Butterfield said, "on behalf of the U.S. House of Representatives and the 750,000 citizens of the NC First Congressional District -- we honor the life and service of Deputy David Leesean Manning."
The driver that Manning was chasing has not been located.
Manning's funeral is set for this Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the Fleming Building on the campus of Edgecombe Community College where he had graduated from basic law enforcement training school last fall.
