Community organizations team up for Eastern Carolina blood drive
The Painted Peacock partnered with The Blood Connection and The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina for Sunday's blood drive event, Paws and Pints.
Ashlea Tievy, the manager at Painted Peacock said, "We love getting local businesses' names out there and just spreading awareness to the dogs, to the blood connection."
The Blood Connection was invited into the Greenville community in October of 2018 and has partnered with Painted Peacock three times since joining the Greenville community.
Jillian Anthony, The Blood Connection Donor Relations Representative said The Blood Connection supplies a variety of blood products to Vidant and a lot of the surrounding Vidant hospitals in the region.
Anthony says Sunday's event goes full circle. All donors received a $10 gift card to the Painted Peacock as a thank you from The Blood Connection and a $10 donation was made to The Eastern Carolina Humane Society.
"The donors come out and they're saving up to three lives with just one pint of blood," said Anthony.
Anita Logan donated blood and said Sunday's event meant a lot to her. She said it's important for donated blood to stay local and she enjoyed The Humane Society being a part of the blood drive.
"Everyone needs to know the importance not only of giving blood but also in adopting a shelter pet rather than buying a pet," said Logan.
