Some college students here in the east and from universities around the country, are choosing to spend their spring break a little differently than most.

More than a dozen students from Boston College are here in the east helping rebuild floors and improve landscaping at the Third Street Education Center this week. They are also spending time with students at the school.

They aren't the only college students taking part in service projects. This week nearly 80 ECU students will take on different projects.

Monday students were out picking up trash along the highway.

ECU sophomore Kayla Jones says, "We're doing different volunteering like the street clean up and the Boys and Girls Club and so it's just a chance to give back and benefit the community."

In New Bern Habitat for Humanity will be receiving help all month long from different universities and colleges for their spring breaks.

This week Sacred Heart University in Connecticut is helping build a new home for a local family.
