Lions Club taking steps to fight juvenile diabetes

The Kinston Host Lions Club is hoping to raise awareness about juvenile diabetes by hosting its first-ever "Strides" Lions for Diabetes Awareness Rockin' Walk-A-Thon.

Organizers are asking for teams and individuals to get sponsors and rock or walk during the three-hour event on March 25.

All proceeds from the event will be split 50/50 to give scholarships to diabetic campers at Camp Needle in the Pines and help local diabetics with pumps and diabetic supplies.

The registration is $5 or $15 if you would like an event T-shirt. Pre-registration is encouraged.

There will also be assessments provided by UNC Lenoir and cholesterol screenings by Kinston Community Health Center.

The Rockin' Walk-A-Thon will begin at 8:30 a.m. March 25 at the Woodmen Community Center Gymnasium in Kinston.
