City of Jacksonville holding event to help residents prepare in the event of a hurricane
We're just a few weeks away from peak hurricane season and one city says now is the time to prepare.
The City of Jacksonville is hosting a hurricane preparedness event on Thursday at the Public Safety Center.
Organizers say the event is meant for people who just moved to the area and anyone who wants to be better informed about the city's responses and resources if a storm were to strike.
A meteorologist with the National Weather Service will be on hand to talk about the current hurricane season and the impacts of last year's. Police and fire rescue crews will be there to help people prepare for any potential storms.
People will be able to ask questions after the presentation. It starts at 6 p.m. and is expected to last about 90 minutes.
