GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - A local economic development manager says his city is poised for significant growth.
Roger Johnson with the City of Greenville teamed up with Bianca Shoneman of the non-profit Uptown Greenville to bring local business leaders and officials up to speed on development in the uptown area.
Johnson and Shoneman told members of the Greenville Pitt County Chamber of Commerce that hundreds of millions of dollars in construction and investments are planned in the next few years with some projects already underway.
New student housing developments along with retail space are planned, which is expected to more than double the number of people living in the uptown area over the next few years.
"Uptown Greenville is under construction as we speak today," Johnson says. "There are over a half a billion dollars in projects going on in the uptown area. From the millennial campus, to student housing, to market rate housing, to businesses moving in. Our city is under construction right now."
Johnson says several existing locations in Uptown Greenville are preparing to host new retail businesses and restaurants.
