GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) Changes are underway in how parking is enforced in Uptown Greenville.
Greenville Parking Officers will be enforcing two hour parking limits on designated spaces later at night than usual.
Officers will enforce the regulations periodically until 10:00 p.m. in the Uptown area.
In the past, enforcement usually ended around 5:00 p.m. when officers went off shift.
First offenses come with a warning followed by $5.00, $10.00, and $20.00 tickets for additional violations.
Greenville Police spokeswoman Kristin Hunter says the change in enforcement was requested by several businesses in the area.
Hunter says, "We wanted to issue a reminder that our parking officers will be out up until 10:00 p.m. especially during some of the weekend hours when we have quite a bit of parking issues and traffic in the downtown area."
A two week grace period is underway in which only warning tickets will be written.
