CARTERET COUNTY, NC (WITN) - One of three counties here in Eastern Carolina that have yet to certify results from the election nearly three weeks ago did that on Monday.
Carteret County's Board of Elections met this morning in Beaufort to first sort through provisional ballots, take care of any protests and then canvass the November 8th results.
Sharon Lewis, Board of Elections Director, says, "We really had no issues at all. It was very short and sweet and to the point. We really didn't have any hard issues to deal with."
Carteret, along with Craven and Lenoir counties were among 17 counties in the state that have yet to certify the election.
Of particular interest is the close governor's race. Incumbent Pat McCrory trails Attorney General Roy Cooper by more than 7,800 votes.
Lenoir County had planned to canvass votes on Tuesday, while Craven County has their meeting on Thursday.
