NEW BERN, NC (WITN) - Another Eastern Carolina hospital is restricting visitors because of the flu.
CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern says effective immediately, visitors must be at least 15 years old.
"We held off making this decision as long as we could, but patient safety is our top priority," said Megan McGarvey, public relations director. "As with most hospitals in our region, patient census is at an extreme high. We ask for your understanding and patience as we move through this challenging flu season," she added.
Children under 15 will still be allowed in public areas of the hospital, but will not be able to visit patient rooms.
The hospital is also asking that no more than two people visit a patient at the same time. Those with coughs, fever, diarrhea, vomiting, or respiratory symptoms are also asked not to visit the hospital.
