COVID-19: Hospitalizations hit new high in North Carolina

The number of people in the hospital hit a new high on Tuesday.

The North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services this morning reported 829 people are in the hospital, compared to 797 on Tuesday.

The previous record was 823 on Saturday.

DHHS said statewide cases of COVID-19 are at 45,853 cases, a jump of 751 since Monday.

The number of deaths now stands at 1,154, compared to 1,118 the day before.

Pitt County health officials say two more people died from complications related to the virus, bringing the total to 4.

In Lenoir County, health officials say one more person died. They say the patient was 65 or older and had significant underlying medical conditions.

There is no information on the patients who passed away in Northampton and Wilson counties.

The number of people in the state with the coronavirus took another big jump on Monday with more than 45,000 positive cases.

The Department of Health & Human Services says there are now a total of 45,102 cases, a 983 increase since Sunday.

Duplin County today announced its 25th death from the coronavirus.

The county health department says the latest fatality was a resident between 25 and 49 years old.

Duplin County has 1,168 cases of the virus, the second-highest county in Eastern Carolina with positive cases. Wayne County remains on top of that list with 1,448.

North Carolina hit a new record in the number of new cases in a single day in the battle against the coronavirus.

The Department of Health & Human Services said there were 1,768 additional cases since Thursday. That brings to 41,249 the number of people with confirmed positive cases.

DHHS also reported 28 new deaths. The statewide death toll now stands at 1,064.

Onslow County health officials are confirming their third COVID-19 related death.

The department did not release any additional information on the patient.

Lenoir County says it has another death from COVID-19.

The health department says this marks the 9th death in the county. On Monday, Lenoir County announced another death from the virus.

The latest death involved a resident under 65-years-old who had underlying medical conditions.

The latest figures show Lenoir County has had 264 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including an outbreak of 39 cases at the Caswell Development Center in Kinston.

Pasquotank County reported it's 14th death, while Hertford County now has 8 deaths.

The number of deaths from the coronavirus in North Carolina has officially surpassed the 1,000 mark.

The Department of Health & Human Resources late this morning said there have been 1,006 deaths statewide.

Lenoir County is the latest in Eastern Carolina to report a new death. The county says a resident under 65 with several underlying medical conditions has passed away.

Lenoir County now has had eight deaths related to COVID-19.

A young girl has died after a battle with the coronavirus.

WRAL reports that Aurea Soto Morales died Monday after she was hospitalized for complications from COVID-19.

The second-grader from Durham had started feeling sick in late May and was rushed to the hospital after having a seizure.

Relatives said her brain swelled before she went into a coma and eventually passed away.

Family members said they want to spread the message that children are not immune to the virus and that people should take the pandemic seriously

State health officials say the first child has died in North Carolina from COVID-19.

The state Department of Health & Human Services says the child, who lived in the central part of the state, passed away Monday from complications associated with the virus.

Most of the deaths so far, 63%, have been people 75 or older. No deaths of people 18-24 have been reported, and just 4% of the deaths are from people 25-49.

On Friday, there was another record increase in new coronavirus cases as more and more people are being tested.

The state Department of Health & Human Services says the positive case count jumped by 1,289 since Thursday's report, bringing the total so far to 33,255 confirmed cases.

State health officials have been ramping up testing over the past week. They report 13,845 test results came in Thursday, and 19,039 the day before.

According to the latest numbers, the state only saw seven more deaths since yesterday. The statewide death toll now stands at 969.

Previous Story

The number of new coronavirus cases took a record jump on Thursday.

The state Department of Health & Human Services says there are now 31,966 confirmed cases of the virus in North Carolina. That's an 1,189 increase since Wednesday.

On Wednesday, state health department officials reported 888 new cases.

It comes as the state continues to ramp up the number of daily tests done for COVID-19. On Wednesday, 19,039 people were tested, well above a goal of 5,000 to 7,000 per day.

Trends for the past five days show an 8 or 9% positive test rate.

There are now at least 962 deaths from the virus, 22 more than Wednesday.

There is another COVID-19 related death reported in Pasquotank County.

Health officials say a total of 13 people have now died from complications from the virus in the county. There is no information on the additional death, but it is confirmed that 12 of the 13 deaths were residents at Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation Center.

North Carolina hit another milestone, reaching more than 30,000 confirmed coronavirus cases.

The state Department of Health & Human Services says the latest figures show 30,777 cases across the state.

That's an 888 jump from yesterday's total.

Deaths continue to climb here in Eastern Carolina due to the coronavirus.

Duplin County announced Tuesday afternoon that two more people have died from the virus. That brings to 20 the number of deaths in that county.

The county said one of the victims was between 25 and 49, while the second was over 65.

Pasquotank County health officials also say there have been two more deaths.

There have are now 923 deaths across the state.

The Department of Health & Human Services said Monday morning that there have been 898 deaths so far from the virus.

Gov. Roy Cooper ordered all flags to be lowered to half-staff for a day of mourning for those who have passed away from COVID-19.

North Carolina has more than 25,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, while an Eastern Carolina county is reporting its fifth death.

The state Department of Health & Human Services reported Thursday morning that their current case count was 25,412. That's a 784 increase since Wednesday.

There were also 33 new deaths across the state, bringing that today to 827.

That includes the fifth death reported in Craven County. The county says that person died Wednesday at CarolinaEast Medical Center and had underlying health conditions.
