CORONAVIRUS: Statewide deaths approach 800

North Carolina is approaching 800 deaths from the coronavirus.

The state Department of Health & Human Services said Wednesday morning that the death toll was 794 across the state.

New deaths in Eastern Carolina include those in Wayne, Pasquotank, and Wilson counties.

The state says they have confirmed another 488 positive cases of the virus since Tuesday. There are now 24,628 COVID-19 cases reported in the state.

Bertie County - 115 cases, 4 deaths

Camden County - 3 cases

Carteret County - 37 cases, 3 deaths

Chowan County - 16 cases

Craven County - 192 cases, 4 deaths

Currituck County – 13 cases

Dare County - 22 cases, 1 death

Duplin County - 707 cases, 16 deaths

Edgecombe County - 190 cases, 9 deaths

Gates County - 24 cases, 1 death

Greene County – 67 cases, 2 deaths

Health officials in Pasquotank and Wilson counties are reporting additional COVID-19 deaths.

Pasquotank County health officials say the patient was over the age of 65, but no other information was provided. This is the ninth county resident to die from the coronavirus.

Wilson County health officials have not provided information about the most recent death. It is the 10th county resident to die from the virus.

Previous Story

Duplin County is reporting three more deaths due to the coronavirus.

The county health department says that it brings to 16 the number of fatalities related to the virus.

Two of the victims were between 50 and 64, while the third was over 65.

The county says the number of confirmed cases has also increased to 670 on Tuesday.

North Carolina has now surpassed 24,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

New figures released Tuesday morning by the state Department of Health & Human Services show there are 24,140 positive cases.

Deaths from the coronavirus now stand at 766 across the state.

The latest Eastern Carolina death happened in Bertie County.

Previous Story

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state approached 24,000 on Memorial Day as the state entered its first full week of phase 2 reopening.

The North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services said there were 23,964 cases statewide.

Wayne & Duplin counties took big jumps over the weekend in their case counts. Wayne County now has more than 1,000 cases, while Duplin County has 659, an increase of 122 new cases over the weekend.

COVID-19 cases in Duplin County continue to climb while the county confirmed yet another death.

The health department says there have now been 537 cases, an increase of 17 since yesterday.

The county also recorded its 13th fatality, a person who was between 50 and 64 years old.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services says 21,618 people now have tested positive for COVID-19 across the state. That's a 758 increase from Thursday.

There are now at least 729 deaths according to the latest figures available.

There has been another big jump in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state.

The North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services reported Thursday morning that there were 20,910 cases in the state.

That is a 788 increase from Wednesday. State health officials have said the higher case numbers were happening because they have ramped up testing in the state.

Deaths now stand at 716.

This as phase two of reopening the state begins at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

The number of confirmed coronavirus took another big jump in the state, now reaching more than 19,000.

The state Department of Health & Human Resources released the lastest COVID-19 numbers Monday morning.

Previous Story:

County officials are reporting several more COVID-19 deaths.

Duplin County says that five more people have died bringing their total deaths to 11. They say there are 354 positive cases of Coronavirus.

Officials say that the people who died were older than 65.

Duplin County says it will have a drive-thru testing event on May 20th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Duplin Events Center.

The testing is open to all Duplin County residents but must pre-register by calling 910-267-2044.

Martin County health officials say a patient died from complications of the virus Tuesday. There are no additional details on the patient "to protect the family's privacy," according to health officials.

Two neighboring Eastern County counties are reporting more coronavirus deaths this afternoon.

Duplin County says two more of its residents have passed away from the virus, bringing to six the number of deaths in that county.

Health officials say one of the victims was between 25 & 49 with no known medical conditions. The other was over 65 with an underlying medical condition.

Duplin County also has seen a jump in cases to 285 residents.

Lenoir County has reported its fifth coronavirus death today.

The county says the victim was over 60 and had several underlying medical conditions.

That brings statewide deaths to 581 people. Overall, the number of confirmed cases has reached 15,346.

There have been 25 cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County.

Last week, county health officials reported 22 of 22 patients to contract the virus had recovered. This means there have been three new cases since then.

Jones County health officials confirmed the third coronavirus death on Sunday.

Health officials say the resident was in their 60's, hospitalized, and considered high risk because of underlying medical conditions.

"We are sad to learn that another Jones County resident has died due to the COVID-19 virus. We extend our deepest sympathies to the individual's family and friends," said Health Director Wesley Smith.

Greene County is confirming its first COVID-19 related death.

Health officials say the patient was older than 65 and had underlying health conditions.

An additional four cases were confirmed in the county Thursday, according to health officials, bringing the total to 31. All four new cases are reportedly isolating at home.

So far, officials say 20 people have recovered from the virus in the county.

There's been an outbreak of COVID-19 at a long term care facility in the east.

Pasquotank County health officials say there are now 33 confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation.

Officials say 275 residents and staff were tested for the virus. So far, 33 tests have come back positive, which is up from 2 earlier this week.

Health officials say they aren't sure how the outbreak began.

There has also been a third reported death in Pasquotank County. The patient was reportedly older than 65.

Pamlico County says all patients who had COVID-19 have now recovered.

The county has reported a total of 8 positive cases and says the last two people were deemed by public health officials as recovered Thursday and off required isolation measures.

Pamlico County reports no new positive cases at this time.

Earlier Thursday Beaufort County reported all 22 people there who were COVID-19 positive had also recovered and there were no current cases.

More than 500 people have died from the coronavirus now in North Carolina.

The North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services said Thursday morning that the death toll in the state has reached 507.

That's an increase of 27 deaths since yesterday.

Overall, the number of cases continues to climb statewide as well. DHHS says 639 new cases have been confirmed, bringing the total cases to 13,397.

Two more deaths in Edgecombe County have pushed the statewide count closer to 500.

Figures assembled by WITN show there are at least 480 deaths from the coronavirus.

Edgecombe County now says seven residents have died, while there are 133 confirmed cases in the county. Earlier today, Northampton County reported another death, bringing its total to five.

Positive case numbers continue to climb. The state said as of Wednesday morning there were 12,758 lab-confirmed cases of the virus.

Of the 480 deaths, 86% of them were people 65 and older.

Two more people in Eastern Carolina have died from COVID-19.

The deaths happened in Northampton and Pasquotank counties.

Details surrounding the patients are limited, but we do know the patient in Pasquotank County was between 50-64 years old.

Health officials say there have been two cases at Elizabeth City Health and Rehab. One of those patients has recovered.

There have also been 19 cases at Pasquotank Correctional Institution. Officials say all who came down with the virus have recovered.

An Eastern Carolina county is reporting two more deaths from the coronavirus.

Duplin County says they were notified Monday of their second and third deaths.

One victim was over 65 while the over was between 25 and 49. Both had underlying medical conditions.

The county now has 142 confirmed cases of the virus.

This brings statewide totals to 453 deaths.

The North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services says 12,256 people have tested positive for the virus in 99 of the 100 counties in the state. Only Avery County does not have a confirmed case.
