CONFIRMED: Tornado touched down this morning in Carteret County

PELETIER, NC (WITN) - The National Weather Service confirms there was a tornado that caused some damage in one Eastern Carolina county early this morning.

After a survey today, meteorologists say an EF0 tornado touched down northwest of Peletier around 1:15 a.m.

They estimate the twister had maximum winds of 75 miles per hour and was on the ground for just under four-tenths of a mile.

The damage was reported near the intersection of 3 Oaks Lane and West Firetower Road. That included a strong vinyl horse fence that was severely damaged, along with tree limbs snapped off from both hardwood trees and softwood pine trees. The largest of the limbs was about a foot in diameter.

The width of the tornado was about 60 yards and there were no injuries.
